Get to Know Robert Dobkin

Robert “Bob” Dobkin is an attorney and community leader who has built his career on helping families, small businesses, and local organizations navigate complex legal and financial matters. He practices law at Spilman Thomas & Battle in their Wheeling office, where his practice centers on corporate and business law, mineral law, and estate and trust planning. His work includes assisting companies from formation to succession planning, guiding real estate and mineral transactions across the Appalachian region, and helping individuals and families protect and transfer wealth responsibly.

Before entering private practice, Bob served as a Trust Officer with WesBanco Trust and Investment Services, where he advised clients on trust and estate administration and wealth planning. He also has significant experience in energy and land development, and as a result has a deep understanding of one of the Second Senatorial District’s most significant industries. Bob’s commitment to the Ohio Valley extends well beyond his professional work. He has served as Past Chair of the Board of Directors for Youth Services System, Vice President of the Temple Shalom Board of Trustees, Treasurer for the West Virginia Northern Community College Foundation, and as a board member for both the Grand Vue Park Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upper Ohio Valley. He also served on the City of Wheeling Board of Zoning Appeals, giving him direct experience with the practical challenges of development and regulation in the region.

Known for his steady leadership and record of service, Bob is running for the West Virginia State Senate to bring disciplined decision-making and a results-oriented mindset to Charleston. His career has been shaped by guiding others in matters involving business, property, energy, and family legacies – and he firmly believes the same seriousness and preparation should be expected from public servants.

He is a graduate of West Virginia Northern Community College, Wheeling Jesuit University, and the Duquesne University School of Law.

Bob was raised in Moundsville, West Virginia. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Amy Dobkin (ne̍e Durrah), for 26 years. They live in Glen Dale where they are raising their son, Ben.
